Purpose of the site

This blog will detail 1,000 video hikes in Southern California. By Southern California, I am drawing a line from San Luis Obispo to the Nevada Border. Anything south of that line will be declared "Southern California". In a way, it is a personal challenge to do so many hikes. Mainly, however, it is my way of showcasing how many hiking opportunities there really are right in our own geographic back yard. As a blog, it serves as a companion piece to my Youtube channel "Mike On The Trail". It is also a work in progress, as I don't actually have 1,000 edited videos completed. This will take effort for quite some time before it is declared done. Even then, there will still be more out there. Here's to hiking and all the positive effects it has had on my life...and possibly yours!

#117 Stoddard Peak

A foggy day in pursuit of Stoddard Peak.

Summary
Stoddard Peak is one of several peaks that forms the high walls of San Antonio Canyon. The hike starts on Barrett-Stoddard Road. I followed the road past some cabins to reach a vehicle gate. Beyond the gate, the road continues to climb toward Stoddard Peak.
On the summit.
The road elevates to a high point while crossing in and out of the forest canopy. At this elevated point in the road, I left the trail to access the summit trail. This narrow trail climbs above the road and up the ridge. After a few false summits, the actual Peak gets reached.
A collection of summit signs to choose from.
There are good views over the populated valley, over San Antonio Canyon, and the nearby surrounding peaks (a few or which are higher). On this current visit, the summit was enshrouded in fog. So I missed out on all the views.
One of many flower types encountered on the hike.
