Purpose of the site

This blog will detail 1,000 video hikes in Southern California. By Southern California, I am drawing a line from San Luis Obispo to the Nevada Border. Anything south of that line will be declared "Southern California". In a way, it is a personal challenge to do so many hikes. Mainly, however, it is my way of showcasing how many hiking opportunities there really are right in our own geographic back yard. As a blog, it serves as a companion piece to my Youtube channel "Mike On The Trail". It is also a work in progress, as I don't actually have 1,000 edited videos completed. This will take effort for quite some time before it is declared done. Even then, there will still be more out there. Here's to hiking and all the positive effects it has had on my life...and possibly yours!

Summary
There are a few combinations of loop hikes that are doable and distinctly different in Bonelli Regional Park. The longest one of them all is the perimeter hike. The trail stays near the park boundary line as it encircles the reservoir and all of the open spaces surrounding it.
Some secluded pathways along the perimeter.
Despite being close to the city, much of the time spent hiking the loop is in seclusion, since the perimeter loop is often lightly travelled. Although mountain bikers often outnumber hikers, they really only utilize small sections of the loop. When seen, they are also usually gone in a flash.

Coming out of the hills.

Whenever I was ever in doubt about turns, I always opted to go left (while hiking clockwise). This made sure I remained as close to the park boundary as I could get. I even made sure to return again, but this time go in the opposite direction. As with past experiences, it seemed like a totally different hike.
