This blog will detail 1,000 video hikes in Southern California. By Southern California, I am drawing a line from San Luis Obispo to the Nevada Border. Anything south of that line will be declared "Southern California". In a way, it is a personal challenge to do so many hikes. Mainly, however, it is my way of showcasing how many hiking opportunities there really are right in our own geographic back yard. As a blog, it serves as a companion piece to my Youtube channel "Mike On The Trail". It is also a work in progress, as I don't actually have 1,000 edited videos completed. This will take effort for quite some time before it is declared done. Even then, there will still be more out there. Here's to hiking and all the positive effects it has had on my life...and possibly yours!
Adding Beacon Hill as a hike was something that I debated at the time I completed the hike. It is very short and takes not too long to finish. However, it is a great vantage point, and it could not be experienced without putting forward the effort to get to it. Once on the summit, there are great views over the Inland Empire with an iconic cross sitting on top.
Approaching the summit.
By simply deciding not to do it would deprive the potential visitor from actually experiencing the accomplishment and views that I enjoyed. Therefore, by including it as a hike helps to round out the hiking experiences within the Inland Empire. In short, this is a worthy hike to add to my list.
On the summit.
To start the hike, I parked on the street near Neal Snipes Park. To the west of the park is a closed vehicle gate. Hikers are able to bypass this gate and walk up the paved road. It quickly elevates above the park and a nearby office building. A summit building sits at the end of the road, but below the high point. A use trail continues from there to the cross on the summit. This is a great spot to enjoy the views and observe the hustle and bustle on Interstate 15 near the base of the peak. After hanging out a while, I returned the same way for a quick hike suitable for any time of the year.
