Purpose of the site

This blog will detail 1,000 video hikes in Southern California. By Southern California, I am drawing a line from San Luis Obispo to the Nevada Border. Anything south of that line will be declared "Southern California". In a way, it is a personal challenge to do so many hikes. Mainly, however, it is my way of showcasing how many hiking opportunities there really are right in our own geographic back yard. As a blog, it serves as a companion piece to my Youtube channel "Mike On The Trail". It is also a work in progress, as I don't actually have 1,000 edited videos completed. This will take effort for quite some time before it is declared done. Even then, there will still be more out there. Here's to hiking and all the positive effects it has had on my life...and possibly yours!

#132 Mount Jurupa

Heading up Mount Jurupa.

Parking coordinates: 34.0322°N, -117.4428°W.
Summary
The Jurupa Hills rise sharply above the bedroom communities of the Inland Empire.  For locals, this provides a great way to escape the pressures of life and little bit of outdoor exercise.

For the rest of us, this is just another great place to enjoy a hiking opportunity.  The hike starts in Martin Tudor Regional Park, where a free parking lot is.  A trail leaves the parking lot going west.  While passing along the base of the peak, A very steep use trail shoots up its side.  This is where you suck it up and start climbing.
Approaching the summit.
It is definitely steep, but a short climb toward the top.  Eventually the grade lessens while approaching the summit.  The top is wide and flat, most likely the result of some grading done years ago.  Meanwhile, it is a great viewing platform over the Inland Empire, and of the San Gabriel Mountains to the north.
On the summit.
The descent needs to be taken slowly, since the steep grade can cause injuries if going too fast.  Otherwise, it is a quick out and back, featuring several "art inspired" decorated boulders along the way.
